Position- Principal Investigator, Director of Research, The Joseph Sagol Neuroscience Center
Summary
Dr. Rubinstein’s lab aims to elucidate how environmental stressors and aging affect the brain and behavior. We use cutting edge behavioral and molecular methods to illuminate redox and immune dys-homeostasis in neurodegenerative disorders and in aging. We are particularly interested to uncover sex differences in neurodegeneration and neuro-inflammation. By combining behavioral cues and molecular markers, we aim to find early biomarkers predicting neuropathology. We work with in vivo transgenic animal models, as well as in vitro models, we also use extreme environments as a model for accelerated aging. Our research is relevant to neuroinflammatory pathologies including cancer, inflammaging, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, MS, and depression.
Overall, our research aims to advance more inclusive predictive and personalized medicine.
